Florence

Dear all,

I'm planning a 19days europe trip for my honeymoon as below:

Day 1-2 ROme
Day 3-4 Florence
Day 5-6 Tuscany
Day 7-8 Cinque terre
Day 9-11 Venice
Day 12 - 17 Croatia
Day 18-19 Milan

I'm planning to do a roadtrip in day 5-6 while ending in Pisa. I'm torn between ending in Pisa and going back to florence as i'm wonder which is the best way to head over to Cinque terre. Any kind souls can suggest how to roadtrip in tuscany within the 2 days and share whether going back to florence or pisa makes better sense :)

THANKS!!

This does not sound like a honeymoon, it sounds like a forced march through Italy. I think you have too many locations and too many short stays.

It is best to plan in terms of number of nights so you get a feeling for full days in a location and also to closely study transfer times and methods. You have, perhaps 13 nights in Italy it seems? I'd say no more than 4 locations to stay/sleep. Otherwise you are constantly on the move.

Are you flying into Rome and out of Milan? When is this trip? Seasons matter for some locations, i.e., the Cinque Terre. WIll you go by train except in Tuscany?

Aslo, where in Croatia and are you flying? If so, is it Venice to Croatia and then back directly to Milan?

Good advice from Laurel: too many places for too short a time, IMHO. You'll end up with 1.5 days of sightseeing in locations with 2-night stays, and barely get acclimated before having to pack up and move on. Is Croatia a MUST? You might want to consider dropping it and adding those days to Rome, Florence and the CT? Rome, especially, needs more than 1.5 days to begin to cover what it has to offer. I'll say the same for Florence.

Florence is also the capital of Tuscany, and it's easy to do any number of day trips from there by train or bus to smaller towns in the region. You could add days to your stay there, and then rent a car for 2 days of exploration in the country (you do not want to deal with a car in Florence).

My advice, as a female who got sooo stressed out from the wedding plans, I would want to relax! Changing locations every 2 days does not leave enough time for sight seeing, enjoying each other, and relaxing. You will waste time checking in and out of hotels, catching, and waiting for trains, and traveling. Can be stressful.

Most people prefer to do a first trip to Italy covering the "Big 3", Venice, Florence, and Rome.

Do you have tickets yet? If not, the best way would be to fly into either Venice or Milan, and out of Rome. Divide your time between the rest, but allow at LEAST 2 nights per city, preferably 3-4. Go to Cinque Terre. Save Croatia for your next trip :)

I wouldn't remove CT! But that's just my personal opinion. I've never been to Italy but am going in late June, also for my honeymoon, and flying in an out of Rome. I'm staying in Rome for three full days upon arrival, going to CT for four full days, and spending two separate days (no nights) in Florence (one day as I travel from Rome to CT and another as I travel back). While I'm really excited about seeing the sights in Rome and Florence, I can't imagine cutting CT because I really want to relax after all the wedding planning.

I agree with others that you might be trying to squeeze too much in. Some of your days you'll be traveling so 2 days in one place won't really be two full days. I'd cut at least one of your locations, if not a few more. Are you committed to flights yet?

I also agree with whoever said to do day trips to Tuscany from Florence. I think it's a great idea to spend at least four days in Florence, sleeping in the same accommodation, but taking day trips to Tuscany.

To be fair, the CT isn't everyone's cuppa during high season because of the mobs clogging up the trains, the streets, the cafes, the beach, the most popular trails during the day... There is a distinct advantage to staying overnight but unless planning to avoid the craziness in the middle of towns during peak sightseeing hours, it's not what I'd call 'relaxing'. It can be worked around with effort and a good pair of shoes (we did) but if looking for low-key place, I'd choose a different location.

Some travelers also prefer different activities, such as museums, theater or archeological/historic sites, so other locations are better choices for them as well.

Congrats! ONLY 2 days in Rome and one of them is your arrival date?? Have you read a guide book yet? My advise is to read your guide book and start writing down the things you want to see/do in each location this will give you a better feel for how much time you need in each place. We just did 18 days in Europe from the west coast and this is what our trip looked like:
Day 1-4 Rome
Day 5-7 Cinque Terre
Day 8-10 Florence/Tuscany
Day 10-18 Paris with two day trips (Mt St Michel and Versailles)

This is not how my initial plan looked, it looked something closer to your hectic schedule. Then I starting shaving and cutting and moving days a painful but necessary process. We did not feel too rushed and took trains all over Italy and a plane between Italy and France. By day 15 of our trip the husband wanted some down time. We only saw a fraction of Rome and a Fraction of Paris. Planning our next trip back to both places for 2017.

Definitely agree this is far to rushed a plan and just doesn't work well when adding in travel time / checking in / out, etc...
Rome you need the most time for and you dedicated the least so is the first revision needed, unless you both have been before you either need a couple more days there and remove other places or need to remove it entirely to make the rest of the plan work.
Milan would probably be the first place I would drop but you may need to drop 2 places.
