Anne try Hotel Accademia. www.hotelaccademiafirenze.com My sister, niece and I stayed here 2 nights in Oct. 2011 and we had a huge triple room. It is super easy to find and only few minutes from the train station. Has wi-fi too. It is located on Via Faenza and just a couple steps from the entrance to the Medici
Chapels. Previously had rented an apt. in Florence for 5 nights and am doing again this summer for 5 nights but doesn't make sense for just 2 nights. Buon Viaggo!

I liked the Hotel Duomo. Right in the middle of things.

We stayed in the Hotel Brunelleschi. It's very close to the Duomo. We had a spacious suite which was absolutely wonderful. Our rate included full breakfasts (which were spectacular!). The bathroom had all the amenities and a jetted tub (which was needed "therapy" after all the walking we did in Rome!) As long as you pack light, it's an easy walk from the train station. (We took a taxi when we arrived and walked from the hotel to the station when we left.)

Anne, I stayed at the hotel Albergo Firenze. I definitely enjoyed my stay there. The rooms were comfortable, clean and well kept. The service was great and the price was reasonable. The location is great! Their central location was great, just off of Via del Corso. The Duomo is only a few blocks away in one direction, and the Piazza della Signoria only a few blocks the other way.

The Relais Tiffany is a good little place near the center of things (and I do mean little...I think it only has 4 or 5 rooms!) Otherwise you could try La Fiesolana, a pied-a-terre which makes a good base in Florence. They may have a 2 night minimum at this time of year. http://www.lafiesolana.com/
