Looking for day trips by car out of Florence?
Dave, I would agree with all of the other mentions...especially Sienna and San Gim. For a short afternoon trip by bus, Fiesole is a wonderful spot, that looks back on Florence, and is totally charming!
The day we went to Sienna it started out sunny and then the skies came down. Beautiful little town and certainly a great day trip- even during a hail storm.
Fiesole is also a wonderful idea-
You can combine Pisa and Lucca.
For the towns that are easy on the train - like Prato, Pistoia, Lucca, Bologna, Arezzo, etc. I wouldn't bother with the car. For in between, Chianti, around Siena, south of there, etc. a car is handy no doubt. How long/far do you want to drive in a day though?
drive time really doesn't matter we got lots of time. have been thinking about Parma. i understand it's about 2-21/2 hrs.
