Florance to Cinque Terra

We will be in Florance for a couple days would it be worth it to make a day trip to Cinque Terra? Can it be done in a long day? Or maybe one over night? Thanks

You would probably do better to skip C/T this trip. It's one or the other. Florence is just too important to miss.

Would two full days in Florance be ok with another day or so for Cinque Terra? I'm traveling with two teen boys?

Hi Lora. CT is very nice; I personally prefer it to Florence, although saying that will get me in trouble on this board. To answer your question, train from Florence to CT is about 3 hours each way, so could be done in a long day if willing to spend 6 hours on train. e.g. Florence - CT 7 am - 10am Ct - Florence 7pm -10 pm. For me personally I would do 1 day in Florence and 2 in CT. Mainly depends whether you prefer art and history vs. outdoors / hiking / scenic. Note that good weather is important in CT. Suggest you read Rick Steves Italy book and decide your priorities. Enjoy your trip!

Lora, IMO, go and stay at least one overnight in the CT area. A one day trip involves too much travel time. That said, perhaps for this trip you might consider a one day bus trip to Siena-only 1 hour from Florence. If you do decide on the CT, in Vernazza, we stay with : http://www.elisabettacarro.it/

it makes for a very long day and the CT is really best enjoyed by spending a night or two Florence has so much to see it would be a shame to miss out on some of the sights I love the CT and Florence and know this is a tough decision
if you can't add time to your trip maybe play it by ear, see how your time in Florence goes, how the weather is and if you are up for a long day trip or want to spend the time in Florence

I think teens might enjoy the variety of both Florence and CT and I agree with Bob... I prefer CT to Florence. I really love the sea and nature and can only take so much of museums and crowds. I would try not to skip either one. I have traveled to both with my grandson and the love seeing the highlights of places. They can come back on their own when they are adults, but when I take kids we do lots of moving around. They love it!
