Florance next weekend

I am planning to go to Florance for the weekend and would love any recommendations for where to eat and where to stay. There are so many hotels/B&B's listed in RS book that it is hard to know which would be best. I prefer hotels for the most part because I am more likely to get what I think I am getting. (Stayed in the CT last weekend in a room where we were assured there was heat. So cold in the room my daughter slept with hat and gloves on!). Love to have restaurant suggestions as well since will probably not be back to Florance for a long time and want to really enjoy it. Thanks in advance for all help.

We enjoyed our meals at Nerone's in Florence. While staying in Florence, I think we ended up eating there 3 or 4 times. Very good food, great wine, nice decor and inexpensive. The pappa al pomodoro is delicious along with all the entress we thoroughly enjoyed. I'd highly recommend it.

Buca Lapi restaurant serves authentic Tuscan cuisine, $$$. Also, in Fiesole, Trattoria Le Cave Di Maiano serves even better food, $$$$! Take the # 7 bus to Fiesole and then taxi to the restaurant. There is a sound-alike restaurant along the way so don't be fooled into going there by mistake. I recommend this B & B if available, Il Salotto di Firenze. The rooms are great and very affordable. It is located at the Piazza Duomo.

We stayed at the Hotel Rivoli in August of 2004 and it was quite nice. It has a Best Western affiliation but isn't at all "chain"-y. We had a truly non-smoking room that was pristine and looked out on a pretty central courtyard. The location was good -- we walked everywhere, including to the train station -- and the price was reasonable. We'll be in Florence in May and I'm planning to book there again.

For hotels, check out the Hilton. There are two in Florence. We stayed at the newest one, Hilton Metropole, which has a free shuttle to/from the train station. I checked the website--both properties are available this weekend for 95 Euros. Upon our arrival, they made reservations for us for that afternoon at the Academia. Have a great time making lifetime memories with your daughter!
