Florance Gold

When I was a kid of 14, I went with my parents on a bus tour of Europe. I remember being in Florance for maybe 1 day and being in an area where gold artisans abound. My mother bought a bracelet. When I look in my Italy book, I see no mention of this. Is Florance known for a gold jewelry section? If such an area exist in Florance, does anyone know its location or name? Thanks in advance, Jon

Italian goldwork is well known for quality. For window shopping, there are lots of shops on the Ponte Vecchio. However, if you want to buy something significant, I'd suggest doing a little research into where natives would buy jewelry... some places that cater to tourists don't necessarily have the best quality. Some upper end guidebooks have suggested merchants, or ask check with your hotel and folks who live there.

Always ask if the piece was made in Italy, The Ponte Vecchio is dizzying with gold jewelry but there are lots of shops nearby - getting a recommendation is a good idea.
