FlixBus

Hello, All,

Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with FlixBus in Italy. I'm considering using FlixBus to travel from Bologna to Genoa. Thanks.

We have taken FlixBus in Croatia and Germany. The buses are clean, and many are new. They stopped after about 3 hours for a potty/smoke break in a rest stop. I'll take FlixBus again. We will be in Italy in Sept-Oct, and will probably take FlixBus to get to Ravenna.

We took Flixbus from Marco Polo airport in Venice to Trieste. Schedule was more convenient and less expensive than going by rail. Bus was clean and on time. Saved the trouble of getting to Mestre to get the train.

I have taken the Flix bus from Innsbruck, Austria to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany and then again to Munich. It was fine. I just looked at both the Flix bus and TrenItalia schedules and fares for your route and there are several trips that are almost equal in time but the bus can range from half to two/thirds cheaper in price. So if you are on a tighter budget it is a viable option. I also have a friend who has used Flix busses on many occasions in Europe. She was the one who recommended it to me. I remember there was wifi on board. Check your pick up and drop off points, they are generally not in bus stations. The one in Innsbruck was on a street in front of a gas station a few blocks (but easily walkable) from the train station. If the price and schedule were convenient for my needs I would take it again, but would probably prefer the train if all things are equal.

I've taken FlixBus and FlixTrain (just took FlixTrain from Münster to Hamburg) and everything was great - and much cheaper than DB and other providers. I think FlixTrain is only in Germany and maybe Sweden right now, but FlixBuses are in many countries.

If you take one, download the app - it will store you ticket and all relevant information.

I took a FlixBus from Wrocław to Prague about 4 years ago. I opted for the front row (small added price) "panoramic seat" and loved the view during the ride through the countryside. I found that it was slightly cheaper to purchase the ticket in Euros (or another local currency) than in dollars. The app and electronic ticketing were great.

Our rest stop was very short - I'm not sure we would have had time to actually "rest."

Took the Flixbus from Rome to Siena, and several days later back again. About 3 hours and I don't think there was a rest stop --- one way there was a toilet on board, the other way the toilet was broken and not available. Good to check out whatever the toilet situation is ahead of time if that will matter to you --- for me, I would prefer the train just to be sure to have a toilet at all times.

As advised above, get the app.

there are many youtube videos about both Flixbus and Flixtrain, they are usually good. however on a recent Flixtrain trip through Sweden the vlogger complained that the coaches were FREEZING because the old-fashioned windows didn't close completely. I saw a bus video where it was like the guy was in his own private apartment.

Thanks to all who replied. Every bit of shared information and wisdom is helpful. To the person who questioned why we would consider the FlixBus over a train, the answer is that on this particular route, both options take about the same amount of time. There is one train option that is faster. However, all the train options require at least one change of trains. With the bus, we can hand over the luggage to the driver who will stow it under the bus and then we can just sit back and relax until we arrive in Genoa. For two senior citizens, that sounds like the best option. Thanks again to all who responded,
