Flights to Rome from L.A.

Going to Rome the end of May 2011. Looking for assistance on where to buy, AAA? What airlines are the best for this route? Advice on when to purchase? I would love to fly from Orange County or Ontario rather than LAX, but realize this limits my options. Open for ideas.

For where to buy, check out Kayak.com. It gives you flights from multiple airlines and third-party sites like Orbitz, starting with the cheapest flights.

The fastest service is the 12-hour nonstop Alitalia flight from LAX to FCO at 15:15, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays through the end of May, 2011 (increasing to daily except Tuesdays and Thursdays in June 2011).

Hi Sig David from Costa Mesa. Let me know your dates. I will see if I can help. As of now not too many sales for flights in May yet

I really don't think you'll find any workable flights from OC or Ontario. I, too, am looking at the Alitalia route for May (early in the month, returning at the end) and am hoping that prices drop below the current fare of 1400 to come back via Bari. Ouchie. I have everything in my trip all booked except the flight because I'm hoping it drops a couple hundred dollars, but with oil prices rising I'm not too confident. SwissAir also operates a flight - nonstop from here to Zurich then on to Rome (or wherever) and they can run good sales. I flew LA-Zurich-Florence and back last October for under 600 :O David, do you have any guess as to when May sales might start? all the airlines still seem to be doing winter sales for travel through March or so.

Hi Sig. I live near Ontario airport & have never found flights from Ontario to Italy that don't involve less than 2-3 stops. I actually researched this again a week ago & found that it's still best to fly out of LAX over Ontario. I wish this weren't the case because Ontario is a much easier airport to navigate. I like Sidestep.com for comparing prices on air & seeing all the options. They have a lot of handy search tools. Have a great trip.

I will try to keep looking for you and sid but if I had to guess probably mid January or so. But it is like you gotta check a couple times per week. The good things is, they are not going up currently so it is not like you have to hurry and buy.

I find the best way to search for airfare is through the flexible date search on travelocity. But your travel dates must be flexible or maybe you will luck out and find something for the date you want.
