flights out of venice

We will be flying out of venice at 6:55am on a sunday morning. Is it crazy for us to try and stay in venice that saturday night and if we do, how do you actually get from hotel to the airport. How much time should we allow? Do the water taxis run early hours, etc? Or should we stay at a hotel by the airport? Trying to make reservations now for places to stay. We are only in venice for 2 nights. Thank you.

You do not need to stay at the aiport. You can get to the airport from Venice proper by 05:00 or 05:30 by using public transport. both the ACTv bus and the ATVO fly bus start running from Piazzale Roma at 05:00 and get you to the terminal around 05:30. You just have to get to P le ROma. You could walk or take the vaporetto, They will be on the night schedule but they are running. cost is around 6 euro per person for the bus 7 euro for the vaporetto ride unless you have a pass that will cover it. the other option is to take the Alilaguna shuttle boat. www.alilaguna.it You want Linea Blu. It arrives at the airport docks at 05:00 and they are about a 5-10 minute walk from the terminal It leaves from San Marco around 03:40. the final option is to take a private water taxi. They are sleek speedboats that will whisk you to the airport dacks in about 35 minutes. Way cool, except for the price. around 100 euro for the boat and probably a 15-20 euro surcharge for the early pick up. Marco Polo is a small airport and there really isn't much going on before 05:30, so you should be fine if you get there by around or before 5:30.

Early flights out of Marco Polo are quite common. They are usually getting you to larger airport hubs to catch your flight home. A few notes. 1) Marco Polo airport opens about 4:30am. 2) Check-In counters open about 5:00am. If you can be at the Piazzale Roma by 5:00am, you can catch the first ATVO bus (the Blue one) to the airport. About 5Euro and the trip takes 25 minutes. You're at the airport by 05:30am. The difficulty is getting to the Piazzale Roma by 05:00am. You most likely have to take the night vaporetto. It would help immensely if we knew where you were staying. Three other alternatives. 1) The Alilaguna boat but that doesn't stop at all stops in Venice. You may or may not be near a stop where they stop. Second, you would have to catch the Alilaguna Blu line about 3:40am or 4:50. This last boat gets you to the airport at 6:07. A bit tight but Marco Polo is not a large airport and you most likely will be making an inter-EU flight. Check-in will be faster. 2) A water taxi. You hotel can arrange this. It's done all the time. Very expensive. 85E-110E for up to 8 people. The water taxi can be there as early as you want and it goes directly to the airport. 3) Stay at the airport. Courtyard by Marriott has a hotel just outside the airport. Titian Inn is also nearby. Both are quite nice. If you let us know where you are staying, we can provide better information.

To my surprise, per their website, Marco Polo airport is actually open 24 hrs a day: Technical sheet on Marco Polo airport The big question is when your check in counter will open. It probably isn't until around 5. Does your flight out of Venice take you first to another city in Europe? If so, you don't have to get there as early as if it's a flight nonstop to the US. (Don't stay by the airport.)
