I am planning a trip to the Amalfi coast next year and then want to tour the Dolomite area. I can't find a flight from Naples to Bolzano although I know there is an airport there. Does anyone know if such a flight exists? It would save a lot of time over the train.

Check out https://www.rome2rio.com for the options. It looks like a train is the best way to go. Bolzano doesn't have scheduled flights: http://www.bolzanoairport.it/en/scheduled-flights-.htm

Make your way to Salerno, then take a train up to Verona (or even Venice).
Rent a car in either city, since they both have rental cars near their respective stations.
Tour the Dolomites.
Since you'll probably need to change trains in Bologna, it might even be better to pick up the rental in Bologna (near the station) and drive from there. Bologna to Verona is a 90 min drive.
