Hi, I’m looking at flights from DFW to Rome nonstop and it looks like basic economy for August is $800, compared to the $1600 I paid for a trip earlier this May. Is there a reason for this?
Consumers' demand.
Late in August has been the magic time for us in terms of significantly cheaper flights from SFO
Do what you gotta do but know that it’ll be toasty in August, especially in southern Italy, and some stores/restaurants/services will be closed in August because many Italians go on holiday in August.
We like the hotel prices in Rome in August too. Plenty of restaurants and all sites are open. Heat can be a bit much but if you are from Texarkana it might be similar.
Read the fine print on the basic economy fare. This route sounds like it could be on American Airlines and they recently tightened up the rules on those fares and made them even more restrictive.
Rome will have most things open but in smaller cities and towns some restaurants/stores/services will be closed and a portion of the population will head beach side.
We are traveling to Europe in September and I consider our airfare (which is the same as what you paid) to be robbery. It could be the new normal. I did hear some analysts say they think fall airfares, for October and beyond to drop. I also know that some of the flights to Hawaii have been discounted lately. Its all supply and demand and what consumers are willing to pay.
