Hi Everyone, I'm currently looking for a place before I fly home. Not a lot within my budget near the airport. However, found something near Milano Central Station that would be convenient for my return from Naples. I understand that that MXP is nearly two hours by train from this location and was wondering how early the trains run. My flight out is at 11:00 a.m. I want to be sure to give myself plenty of time, even if that meas setting out at 6:00 a.m. Any suggestions?
CK, Where did you hear that travel from Milano Centrale to Malpensa took two hours??? That's absolutely NOT correct! You should have no problem staying in the vicinity of Milano Centrale and connecting with a flight at 11:00. You have a couple of options.... 1.) Train - there's a train departing at 08:25, arriving Malpensa at 09:13 (time 0H:48M) - current fare is €7 (second class). There are earlier trains also, if you want to arrive at the airport in lots of time to connect with your flight. 2.) Malpensa Shuttle (Bus) - departs just outside Milano Centrale every 20 minute - trip is about 50-minutes - travels to both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. As I recall, fare is €7.50 (you can pay the Driver or buy a ticket in the station). There's also the Malpensa Express (train) which departs from Cadorna station. You should have no problems at all staying in Milan the night prior to your flight. Happy travels!
Thanks, it's late and I've been obsessing about the trip--going alone and have little to no sense of direction. I simply did a point to point using GoogleMaps, selecting the public transportation option. Glad that real people are more reliable than Internet search engines! Again, thanks for allaying my fears! Needless to say, I've gone ahead and booked the hotel near the station.
CK, You're very welcome! I assume your flight will be departing from Terminal 1? I was in Milan last year and used the Malpensa Shuttle, and it was an easy trip (once I figured out where it was parked). As I recall, there were ticket machines in the area of the baggage carousels, so I didn't have to pay the driver.
Sounds like someone needs to buy the RS Italy 2011 book. :-) It's loaded with all that kind of practical information, including the logistics and timing of transportation connections. Have a great time. I hope you get a chance to see the Duomo in Milan. It's pretty amazing. Go up on the roof to wander around, if you can. Happy travels.
Hank I just answered your question and then saw your post here. Comparing the Trenitalia schedule to the link you provided, it looks like the same schedule. Perhaps they have combined forces. I always thought the Malpensa Express was a different company. Is it "LeNord?"
There is a bus station just to the right side of the train station (as you are facing the building) There are buses that run to both airports in Milan. I'd suggest going to the ticket window the day before (the day you arrive at the train station from Naples) and checking the schedule, get your bearings for where to catch the bus, maybe even buy your ticket. The bus will take you right to the airport, it's the easiest and quickest and cheapest.
My understanding is that the Malpensa Express goes from Milano Centrale to MXP as well, not just Cadorna. http://www.malpensaexpress.it/en/orari_e_news/content.php
