Flight Munich to Venice

I'm looking into the flights from Munich to Venice. I just went into the site for Air Dolomiti and the price of the flight depends on the weight of your luggage. Any input on this?

Thank you.

What sort of information are you looking for, and are you referring to hand luggage or checked luggage? One way budget carriers make money is by charging for checked bags and having a very low weight limit for carry-ons.

Seems typical for the 'super economy' airlines.

You need to be sure when booking with this type airline you carefully read ALL the fine print and compare the final price, with all the add-ons, to the fare on a traditional airline.

Weight adds to fuel burn, so more weight = more fuel = more money

Just guessing, but it may have something to do with people bringing sports-specific gear to this destination, which is extra stuff to pack in most cases.

I've taken that flight several times, and Air Dolomiti is a quality airline. When you arrive into VCE airport you can hop on a water taxi and zip across the lagoon in 007 style.

Alternately you can hop on a high speed direct train from Munich to Venice and be dropped right into Piazzale Roma on Venice Island.

I just did the opposite trip in November and I believe we booked the Plus fare. We had no issues regarding weight of our checked bag, which was quite large (probably a few pounds shy of 50 pounds). They did not weigh our carry on bags at all (I think they just gave us a little tag that says it was an approved carry on). I can't speak for the Air Dolomiti staff in Munich, but we didn't have any issues with baggage in VCE.

zpc,

On that route, I'd definitely take the train rather than use a flight. There's a direct (no changes) EuroCity departing Munich Hbf at 11:34, arriving Venezia Santa Lucia at 18:10 (time 6H:36M). They currently have savings fares listed at €74.90 PP.

By the time you include travel to and from airports at both ends, check-in, security, waiting, boarding and de-planing and all the other usual airport hassles, I'm not sure that a flight will be much (if any) quicker. Travel by train also means you won't have to deal with expensive or restrictive baggage issues.

Last summer we flew and paid about $111. We checked 2 bags. If in doubt just pay the extra fee and don't worry about it. The flight is about 1 hour and the ride from the airport to Venice is about 20 minutes by bus.

I've decided on the train. Now I'm booking but it's confusing when choosing the seats. I've read on other boards where it's better to have the system choose your seats automatically. I'm booking first class and would like the two seats by the windows that are alone to one side. Any suggestions?

I just did a dummy booking for the EC direct train on April 11. When I went to seat selection, I checked "any" in "compartment type", then "window across from each other" under "Location of seat", and "any" in "zone".
A diagram of the car 262 popped up showing the seat locations, and I selected seats across a table that were on the single-seat row. Easy as that.
That was, of course at www.bahn.com.

I booked the tickets, it didn't ask for the 2nd passengers info just mine. Is this how it's reserved?

Thanks

Yes, DB only cares about the person buying the ticket, the "lead" traveler. You just indicate to the conductor that he/she is with me.
