Flight in and out of FCO same day

Arrive 9:15 from phila. to Term 3 in Rome. Take a flight from Rome to Sicily (separate tix, not checked thru). How much hassle will it be to pick up bags, re-enter, go to counter, check in, check bags, and get to terminal? Will 1 pm departure to Sicily be enough time? Thanks

Just checking - do you know from which terminal your Sicily flight departs? We flew to Sicily after having several days in Rome, and getting they FCO that morning for Palermo was a breeze; flying home from Rome after our return from Sicily/Calabria/Sorrento/Naples involved a hike thru the airport, which had some remodeling construction going on a while ago, then really slow security screening. Not a long line a Security, just really slow. And Passport Control was really scrutinizing my US Passport, like no one ever has, before or since. Your results may vary, but hopefully Murphy’s Law won’t cause anything that can go wrong to actually go wrong for you. If it’s gotten to be 10:45 and you’re not close to getting your bags checked in for your Sicily flight, get an airport official’s attention, to see if they can help expedite the process.

I don't have tix yet, but was thinking that it might be easier that since we come into T 3, then departure from there via Ryanair would reduce hassles. Don't have tix since I am calculating time of arrival at 9:15 to departure for Palermo. Maybe the 4 pm flight would make it less nailbiting. S

I bet you’ll make that 1pm flight OK, especially if it’s on the same terminal. More time in Sicily and earlier arrival vs. sitting in an airport much of a day - I can see why that earlier Ryanair flight would be far preferable!

Shouldn’t be a problem since Ryanair departs T3. You should be able to pick up any checked bags and checking in at Ryan staying airside, no need to go through security again but you do go through immigration upon arrival at FCO.
