Flight from Rome to Barcelona

Greetings, I hope all is well. I am planning on flying from Rome to Barcelona in the beginning of December and I had a few questions.

  1. I am thinking about taking the Vueling airline and the flight will be at approx 11 AM EU time, how good is Vueling from short distances such as Rome to Barcelona? Should I be concerned about the airline cancelling due to reasons their end?

  2. If I am an American citizen traveling from Rome to Barcelona other than my passport and boarding pass, what else would i require? Will ETIAS be needed if I am flying from Rome to Barcelona this December as well?

Thank you for reading

ETIAS won't come into effect until next year. It only applies to your entry into and exit from the Schengen zone and those other EU countries that are participating). ETIAS does not apply to travel between those countries (Italy and Spain). You just need your passport and ticket.

This is going to be like a domestic flight in the US.

At Rome you will go through security, but then you will be in the Schengen departure area. There is no passport control there. They may, or may not (depends on the airline, but low costs usually do) ask to see your passport at the gate, but that is just a conformity check. Try to be at the airport about an hour before the check-in cut off.

I liked and preferred Vueling to RyanAir and EasyJet (ryan being the least good, easyjet "feeling" more pleasant, doubtful it was much more pleasant) and have done the Rome to Barcelona flight before, albeit 20 years ago :)
