Flight from Paris to Venice Easyjet vs Transavia Air

I am traveling from Paris to Venice on October 1st and need some advice on best options. I've read several post regarding both Easyjet and Transavia Air and I'm concerned which airline and airport I should use.. I have read Orly is easier to get in and out of than CDG but the flight times are either early or late in the day if I use Easyjet. Transavia has a flight leaving Orly around noon which would work well. I'm concerned with delays and cancellations with Transavia. If I choose Easyjet out of Orly I would need to leave around 7:00 am or early evening which I lose time in Venice. Easyjet has mid day departure out of CDG, is it worth going through CDG? How early do you recommend we get to the airport, not familiar with either airport. It will be our first time there since we're flying into London .

Does anyone have recent experience for this route? The prices are similar and either option I will need to check my luggage since the weight limitations are so low on both airlines. I will prepay to avoid additional cost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year!

lisa,

I've never flown with Transavia, so can't offer any advice on that point. EasyJet is my preferred budget airline in Europe, and I try to use them whenever possible.

ORY is a smaller airport and therefore a bit easier to navigate, but I'd use CDG if the flight timing fit my plans. Getting to ORY involves a trip on the RER "B" to Antony station, and then transfer to the OrlyVal train. It's not difficult, but involves one change of trains.

CDG is a bit easier to access as you can either take the RER "B" directly there, or just ask your hotel to book a Shuttle (that's what I've done in the past, and also when I was there in July). The Shuttles will generally drop you off at whichever Terminal your flight departs from. If you use EasyJet, I believe you'll be departing from Terminal 2D. I'd probably prefer a mid-day departure also, and would have no hesitation in using CDG if necessary.

If you decide to use EasyJet, a few points to note.....

  • They no longer offer check-in at many airports. Passengers use a bag drop for checked luggage. I tried it for the first time this year and it works quite well.
  • You should be able to check-in and print your Boarding Pass up to 30 days prior to your flight.
  • They're VERY strict with carry-on luggage. In most cases, passengers are allowed ONE carry-on bag each. That DOESN'T mean "one plus a personal item such as a Purse", it means ONE ONLY of the approved size.
  • As you've noted, if you think your checked luggage will exceed the weight allowance, it's cheaper to pay for the excess at the time of booking, rather than at the gate.
  • I decided to pay extra for seat selection and preferred boarding this time, just to try it. I found that it was well worth the extra cost, and I'll do that from now on.

Good luck with your decision and happy travels!

Ken's covered your choices well. I can only add an aside: That automated shuttle train at Orly lasts less than five minutes and costs more than 2 euro per minute, about the worst price for any transport around Paris.
Transavia is a branch of Air France/KLM, if that makes any difference. easyJet delivers exactly what you pay for, which does not include five-star touchy-feely hospitality. My several trips have all been good value and reassuring.
