My husband and I will be traveling to Rome in December. We have 40 minutes to transfer from a United flight to a Lufthansa flight. How complicated will this be in Munich airport? Both flights do say Terminal 2.
Are they booked together? If so, the airline is responsible for getting you on a later flight if you miss the connection. If no, they aren't.
I have traveled through Munich many times, usually US to IT, and I like to have an hour and a half to feel comfortable. You are likely going to have to walk very rapidly at the very least.
They are booked together! Thanks for the help. We are walking in the evenings now to step up our game!
That helps peace of mind for sure! And I think having checked bags may help, but that is just a hunch. We have had to run a couple times (with carry-ons!) with some tight Lufthansa connections, but I don't remember the terminal specifics. (but they were all from US to Italy so I would think similar logistics). Just make sure you are ready to go, and have your stuff organized. Go to the restroom, etc., on the plane so you can make a beeline.
We will be traveling from the US as well. I appreciate the awesome tips!
If you are coming from the US, then consider that you will have to pass through Passport control before you can board your next flight. 40 min will be exceedingly tight, IMO.
They have passport scanner machines at Munich now, which helps expedite as long as you don't get behind someone who can't use them! Another tip: don't rest your fingers atop the passport as it is being scanned. It somehow affects the scanning. Just rest the passport page on the screen and it will work quickly.
To improve your mental well-being, research when the next flight from Munich to Rome would be ... United would have to take care of you. We made a United-to-Lufthansa connection in Frankfurt on the way to Vienna with ample time on a 2-hour layover, but I knew that in the worst case there were multiple flights taking off later.
