Flight From Hamburg to Lucca. Want to see Pisa and Cinqe terre

Topic sums it up. There are Five of us, My soon to be wife and I. My parents as well as her mother. Dates are flying out of Hamburg on Oct. 8th and come back on the 11th the same week. Best flight price was close to 300.00 usd per person. Can anyone beat that? Fly from Hamburg to Lucca. Staying in airbnb http://www.airbnb.com/users/show/649338 Its the only way to go and the people on here are great. So I need your help. From Pisa to Lucca (where our place will be) How do you suggest we get there? Train yes? Keep in mind we also want to go to Cinqe terre and if we rent a car we get to Lucca and then later on our stay we go to 5 terra. So two diffrent train tickets vs the cost of a car for three days. What do you suggest for things to not miss while in all three cities?
Thank you for all your help Damion

If you won't need a car other than for transit between Pisa airport, Lucca and Cinque Terre, regional trains are the way to go. Tickets for 5 people round trip airport to Lucca will cost 25 euro and 5 people round trip Lucca to Cinque Terre will cost 73 euro. Buy tickets to La Spezia and then tickets for the local train, which are good for 6 hours in one direction. With a little planning, you can see all or most of the 5 towns on just 2 local tickets each. Note that the cost of trains about doubles if you use intercity instead of regional trains, even though the travel time is about the same.

damion, Even though there are five of you, I'd probably travel by train. Many of trains in that area are Regionale, and the tickets are usually fairly cheap. I'd suggest having a look at the Trenitalia website to get some idea of the routes and departure times you might need. Another consideration is that a car for five adults will need to be somewhat "larger". Are you comfortable driving a manual transmission? One other point to keep in mind is that for driving in Italy, each driver will require the compulsory I.D.P., which must be used in conjunction with your home D.L. You'll also need to be careful not to violate ZTL areas which are common in many towns in Italy (expensive tickets). Which airport are you flying into? PSA is probably the closest. Happy travels!
