Flight from Bari to Rome

My husband and I will be in Bari first two weeks of May and flying out of Rome. Which airline is best to fly from Bari to Rome?

Thanks!

Which airline..... none! IMHO, it would be better to take the train. It will most likely be faster than flying and it will most certainly be more comfortable and relaxing.

There's a Frecciargento departing Bari Centrale at 08:46, arriving Roma Termini at 12:55 (time 4H:09M, direct). At the moment they have Super Economy fares listed as low as €33.90 PP, however those are only available in limited quantities and when they sell out, the next tier is Economy at €45.90 PP.

This is to Ken on his last response to your question.

Can you tell me if its a highspeed train or what we would call a local making several stops? We too need to get from Bari to Rome and the availability of flights are limited.

This would be around July 15th their busy season.

Thank you.

Trains call Freccia-something (rossa, argento, bianca) are high speed trains (with limited stops).
The trains that call at every (or most) stations are called REGIONALE or also REGIONALE VELOCE (RV), which make fewer stops (Veloce means fast or speedy). Intercity (IC) trains are in between (fast but not as fast as Freccia-... trains).
Freccia trains and Intercity trains have reserved seats. Regionale and RV trains do not (first come/first served, just like a subway or commuter train in NYC).

Bill N,

Yes, the Frecciargento is a high speed train that travels at up to 250 km/h, although the speed is slightly slower than the Frecciarossa (up to about 350 km/h) and faster than the Frecciabianca (up to about 200 km/h). One of the differences between the three versions is the voltage level that they operate with.

As Roberto mentioned the high speed trains do make a few stops but not as many as the Regionale trains. High speed trains (including Italo) only get up to the top speed outside of cities. High speed trains are often the best way to get between cities in Italy as distances are relatively short.

Tickets for Freccia trains include compulsory seat reservations which are specific to train, date and departure time. The ticket will specify your Carrozza (coach) number and Posti (seat numbers). Those travelling with a Rail Pass must purchase the seat reservations separately "out-of-pocket".
