Flight checkin time needed at Rome Fiumicino

Will be flying Alitalia from Rome direct to CDG Paris, Sunday May 15, 2016 at 2:40PM.
I will be in Orveito the previous week and would like to take the Sunday morning train into the airport.
Unfortunately the Sunday schedule is limited and the only train that I could make leaves Orveito at 8:59 goes to Tarmini station and then change to a train that is scheduled to arrive at the airport at 11:43AM.
That should work assuming I will not have a problem getting tickets on those trains and the connection works in Rome.
Does this allow enough time considering Security and checkin baggage?
If not, I could go the Rome the day before which would allow me enough time to get to the airport on Sunday but I will need to pay for a hotel. Would rather not do this if I don't need to.
Hopefully someone has done this and knows time required,
Thanks!

With the usual assumption that everything is on time, you should be ok. Since it is a domestic flight all you have to do is clear security in Rome. Should have adequate time for that.

Last time we came out of Orvieto, we were in Rome Termini in 70 minutes. The Leonardo Express runs every 30 minutes for a 30 minute ride to FCO.
You'll be just fine.

3 hours sounds more than ample to me. Buy your Leonardo Express ticket in Orvieto (or somewhere else) to save time at Termini. You may have a walk to the train - just ask where the Leonardo Express is. Be sure to validate your ticket at a machine (old ones are yellow, new ones are green) on any of the platforms at Termini before boarding. If you miss the train, there's another one in about 1/2 hour. That should still leave you with time to relax at the airport before boarding.

It is worth working out ahead which platforms you will need at Termini.

Several of the trains from Orvieto arrive out in the boonies practically the next county at one of the "Est" platforms, often 2 Est. That is several hundred metres (yards) out from the main station and takes a fair amount of time to walk.

The Leonardo Express recently went off 24 or 25 if my memory is correct, and it is a fair old hump from lower numbered platforms.

In any event, your trains may be different and it may be easier for you. Do check, Bill.
