Flight changed, What to do?

So... After purchasing plane tickets about a month ago, I recieved a lovely email from the airline today that my flight into Naples had been pushed back about 8 hours (a much longer layover in Madrid) The new flight is scheduled to land in Naples at 1700. I had originally planned to head to Sorrento right off the plane, but I'm wondering if that would be possible now. Any suggestions if I should still try to head to Sorrento in the dark (after 24+ hours of traveling) or just call it a night somewhere in Naples and head to Sorrento first thing in the AM. Does someone have a hotel suggestion for Naples, maybe near the airport?

Why not consider a scheduled pick-up arranged by your hotel or B&B. You can also ask if the airport bus to Sorrento runs that late. Check with where you are booked into in Sorrento, to see what they can suggest. And if you were planning on renting a car and picking it up on arrival, see if you can push back the pick-up date, as you really don''t need/want a car in Naples or Sorrento...

It is light until later there. It is not that far to Sorrento. You might consider travel.

Pam, Fiirst thing thatI would do is get on the phone and call the airline. See if thet can change you to a different flight with NO change fee. If you get a helpful agent they may be able to change it for you. I usually call around 11pm or so and it seems to work for me. I hope it gets straightened out.
Have a great trip!

You don't say when you'll be there, so it's hard to know when it will get dark. FWIW, Naples isn't much farther north than Dallas, so it would be about the same time for sunset.

Pam, Despite the change of plans, I'd probably continue onward to Sorrento. Having to book a Hotel for Naples and then heading out again first thing in the morning would be a nuisance. If you press on, you'll be able to wake up and enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Have a look at This Website (click the English flag at the top). There's a departure at 18:00 and again at 19:30, so you should be able to connect with one of them. Although I'm sure you'll be tired, this seems like the easiest solution. As the others have said, I doubt that it will be dark at that time of night (you didn't say what time of year you were travelling?). If you're travelling soon, the excitement of seeing a glorious Amalfi sunset will probably dispel some of your fatigue. Happy travels!

Go to Sorrento! You walk 50 feet out the airport door to the waiting bus to Sorrento, place your luggage under the bus, and climb into the clean and comfortable seats for an easy ride. Piece of Cake!

Another vote for the bus to Sorrento. Costs 10€ per person. Nice, comfortable ride to Sorrento. It's about an hour and a half ride. No hassle of getting into Naples and making your way to Sorrento the next day. Sorrento is beautiful in September.

Pam, with the caveat that there are probably many other potential posters that will be able to give you all the legal details, but it used to be (and may still be) that if an airline schedule changes "significantly" (as yours did) by I think more than 2 (or maybe it's 3 hours), that the airline HAS TO offer alternative arrangements that meet your needs. If you are flying on a US based airline (and since you are in Dallas, I'm just (maybe wrongfully) assuming it's American Airlines. But, definitely call them, nicely explain how you purchased the tickets in good faith, how this is totally messing up your trip...what other flights can they offer you (even if THEY have to upgrade you to business class, etc.) or if THEY pay for a ticket similar to your original schedule. Again, this may have all changed, but I have several friends who at different times experienced the up-side of such arrangements (and some of those tickets were booked with frequent flier miles). But,sorry, that's not really your question. Your question is about still getting to Sorrento that night. Please post again if you find out that this is the case.
