If not flying into Venice itself, I would recommend to look at Milan or Bologna before Rome - the train from these airports to Venice are less time than from Rome. But, if going for cost and possibly non-stop, then Rome may be your best bet. All of these are easy to get to Venice by train.

When you say "best," are you looking for the lowest price, most frequent service, nearest to Venice to avoid a train ride, or ...?

I like to use Kayak to look for flights as is has lots of filters -- you can eliminate flights that aren't nonstop, for example. Once I know the flight I want, I go to the actual airline's site to purchase. I do that because if you buy through a 3rd party (like Travelocity or Expedia) and you later need to contact the airline for anything, it can be a hassle to get them to recognize you as their passenger.

If you spend a little time hunting around on Kayak every few days, you can get a general idea of which airlines are offering good fares and serving either Venice itself or one of the other northern Italy airports (Milan, Bologna, Florence).

I'm not sure that I understand the question since I'm not sure what the OP is wanting to ask.

I don't know the origin point in Florida, but the airport in Venice is best if headed to Venice. If the OP is looking for direct/cheaper fights on certain dates, this could be helpful information to know up front.

Where in Florida? Last September the shortest flight I found was Miami>Madrid>Venice on Iberia.

Not sure if this will help. Just an FYI.

We are planning to visit Venice, 3rd week of March 2020. I've been watching Kayak and have seen flights on TAP from MIAMI to VCE @ $395 r/t pp. So far this week, prices are fluctuating up to $495. This is on economy, no refund. Basic is slightly more expensive, changes have penalties.

The catch.

From MIA to VCE has around 1. 5 hr layover in Lisbon..
From VCE to MIA has 20 hr layover in Lisbon. If the price drops low enough, I may purchase it. Another reason to explore a different European city.

Keep searching on Kayak, browse all airlines..

Good luck..

I go from Ft. Lauderdale, usually with a stop at JFK, then on to Venice. I absolutely hate flying out of Miami! The hassle and aggravation is not worth it to me.
