Flexibility for Accademia Gallery reservation?

Hi,

I will be traveling solo from Rome to Florence on Wednesday, October 24, arriving at SMN Firenze at 9:17am. I called the Accademia Gallery reservation line, and the latest available time was at 9:15am. I plan to head to the museum directly from the train, and it looks as if I can arrive by 9:30 or 9:35am.

My question - will the museum allow any flexibility with my reservation? Or should I plan to book at one of the more expensive websites to guarantee my spot? I am only visiting for the day and hoping to also book a trip up the Duomo steps as well as fitting in several other sites, so want to plan my schedule accordingly.

Thank you!

What do you mean by flexibility? If you arrive early they will let you enter as long as you have your pass. I'm not sure about what happens if you are late...presumably that would be an issue.

Dan, you must be taking - or planning on taking - an Italo train. Have you purchased tickets yet? If not, I'd take an earlier train. Aside from the fact that I'm pretty sure no one can guarantee they'll be flexible if you miss your Accademia entry time, what with daylight being rather short this time of year I'd want to maximize those hours for a one-day visit.

Kathy, that's exactly right. I just decided to move up the train so I will arrive at 8:46am ahead of my 9:15am reservation. The change fee was cheaper than it would be to buy a more expensive ticket (~20e) for a different time at the museum.

Thank you all for the advice!

Excellent, Dan! Enjoy your day in Florence!

Extra note, though? The climb for the duomo cupola books up quickly in advance so if you haven't bought the ticket and reserved a slot at time of purchase, do it soon!

Great tip - thanks Kathy! I'm booking the Duomo at 11:00am - hopefully that will allow enough time to get in and out of the Accademia!
