Flaminio area of Rome

We will be in Rome from Dec. 29th - Jan. 2 this year. I have found an apartment that we're interested in renting but it is in Flaminio. I'm not familiar with Rome, is Flaminio a decent area to be in for sightseeing by foot/metro? We will not have a car and prefer to walk. We will take the metro if need be. Is it a safe area at night? We await your suggestions as we have just a couple of more hours to confirm the booking. Thanks!

I am not familiar with an area called Flaminio how about an address or cross street location? Or a distant and direction from Termini.

Google maps is a big help here. Type in Flaminio, Roma, Italia and it will show you that this neighborhood is just west of the Borghese Gardens. That's farther away than I would want to be from the main sights. And don't allow yourself to be bullied into making any reservations. There are hundreds of places to stay in Rome.

Thanks Frank, it's an area North of Villa Borghese. The price was fantastic but we decided to go with an apartment in the Camp de fiori area for proximity to sights. Thanks for replying!

Just an FYI, Flaminio is a section of town north of Piazza di Popolo. In fact, just north of the piazza (and the metro station Flaminio) is Via Flamania. This area of Rome is filled primarily with apartment buidlings. It is outside the centro area yet I have 4-5 friends who live in this area and love it. There will be plenty of local restaurants and cafes in the area. This is more a working class neighborhood (although there are a couple of upscale lanes where commericals are often filmed and a few smaller embassies). if you are staying here. the closest metro station is Flaminio and you'll probably be riding the #2 to cut down on the walking. You may want to ride the bus, tram, depending on how far from the Metro and Piazza di Popolo you are. Often when you are staying on Via Flaminia, it does not look that far to Piazza di Popolo, but..... it can be a long walk! If you're there on weekend -and it's rugby season - the stadium is in Flaminio and it can get pretty rowdy, but a lot of fun! When the Scots come they wear kilts; when the Irish come, they ALWAYS have a great time. North of the Flamino area is the Auditorium. Again, there are several buses and trams that service the Flaminio area.

Thanks Michael! We decided to stay near Campo de fiori..We figured it was too far. The price was amazing though!! We will be in Rome for New Years Eve so we don't want to risk not making reservations and everything be booked! Better safe than sorry since we will be a long long way from home!

Thanks for taking the time to reply Ron. I noticed that the stadium was nearby. Much to my husbands dismay, I chose to stay far away!!

My boyfriend and I will also be in Rome on those dates and we went the complete opposite - hotel in the centre of Rome so we could enjoy the sites by foot as we won't have a car either. Just thought I'd mention that when I was researching where to stay I came across the one you ended up booking with - looks very very nice :)
Hope you enjoy your New Years in Rome! We'e getting very excited, not long now!

Dee:
You will be glad to be near Campo dei Fiori! We walked all over Rome from there! 20 minutes to St. Peter's on foot, 25 to the Colosseum, good restaurants nearby. Check out Cul de Sac on Piazza di Pasquino. Small, and it can be crowded (especially after 8PM), but affordable, good quality, and what a wine selection!
