We will be arriving at Fiumicino May 11, landing at 8:10 am. Our plan is catch the Leonardo Express at 9:08 (arr 9:40) or 9:23 (arr 9:55), then catch the Frecciarossa 9613 to Napoli Centrale at 10:40 (arr 11:50). Does this sound like I'm giving us enough time? We did this a couple years ago on a trip to Florence, but I don't remember what sort of schedule we were adhering to, if any! Also, is there any real advantage to buying tickets in advance? I remember buying our tickets for the Leonardo and the connecting train to Florence last time at the airport station. One other thing – we're meeting a car transfer driver at Napoli and our hotel has advised us to call them in the event our flight is late and we miss our trains. I'm confused about what to dial, as I don't think I've ever made a phone call with my iPhone in Italy. If the number is +39 089 8321849, what exactly do I dial. Thanks for any advice!
Wait until you get there to buy your train tickets. The plane may be delayed.
The advantage to buying the Roma Termini to Naples leg would be that you can get one of the super saver tickets.
Definitely wait until after you land, nothing like a cancelled, highly delayed flight or immigration control to ruin those plans. There are ticket / Kiosks and a ticket office at FCO.
As for your cell phone I pulled this off of this link: https://www.walksofitaly.com/blog/all-around-italy/cell-phones-italy-country-code-mobile-phone-call.
To call an Italian phone number from a U.S. or any other non-Italian cell phone:
Dial +. Your cell phone “knows” to replace that + with the international access code that you need to dial out of the U.S. to another country. Every cell phone has a + button; it’s usually the same button as the 0 or the *. To access it, try holding down either the 0 or the *, or double-tapping one of the two buttons.
Dial 39. That’s Italy’s country code.
Dial the rest of the number. Include the first 0. (When calling other countries, you drop that 0).
So: If someone hands you a card that says their Italian number is 0123456789, then, from your U.S. cell phone, even if you’re in Italy, you dial +39 0123456789.
Mille Grazie!
We are traveling from Rome to Naples then taking a car to Positano, but I found this coach service (Fiumicino to Naples) that seems to be less hassle (and got really good reviews on another travel website): http://www.fiumicinoexpress.com/bus-rome-fiumicino-airport-to-naples/?lang=en
I haven't searched to see if this has been discussed here, but might be something to consider.
