I'm looking for information about renting fishing gear and fishing from shore in Sardinia (anywhere). If anyone has any experience with this I'd love to hear it. We're likely there in late Sept-early Oct.

No experience fishing in Sardinia. But you will need a permit. I think it’s free and online.
Once you decide where in Sardinia you will be, search for shops that rent fishing equipment. Search: “Noleggio attrezzatura da pesca (town name)”, also using GoogleMaps.
I’m sure the shop can suggest the best spot to fish nearby. Some localities may prohibit fishing at some beaches, so you need to enquire.
