first visit to Rome

What's the best area as a base for walking tours?
Will be there just 3 nights before a cruise.

I have always found the Piazza Navona area to work best. You are close enough to walk just about every major site. And even if some may look very far away, the walk doesn't have to be boring! You've got a few centuries of culture to explore along the way.

Agreed, anywhere between Piazza Navona & Campo di Fiori. We stay at Hotel Smeraldo, an RS hotel that's well located but of course there are many others nearby.

The area near the Pantheon is wonderful.

Rome is my favorite foreign city, it is loaded with history ancient and more.

Also, it has beautiful art, St. Peter's Basilica is amazing, it took over a century and a half to build, and Michalengelo was the second of three architects. The dome and Sistine Chapel are his notable contributions. The Sistine Chapel is very, very special.

Also, love the Coliseum, Forum, Trajan's Market, the Capitoline Museum, Pantheon and much more.
