First trip to Italy for Honeymoon: What to do with last 4 days

We are doing the Best of Italy tour this summer for our honeymoon (3 days Venice, 3 days Florence, and 3 days Rome) and then we have 4 days (we can extend it 1 or 2 days if thats what you guys recommend) to do whatever we want. We love art and history. What should we do?

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Definately extend your tour preferable front side and end of trip. If Venice is your tour starting point then an easy train ride and visit to Verona or Padua is suggested. End of trip Rome then see more museums, and walkabout Rome. ROme is a blockbuster of sights for the first time tourist. Wear a money belt always especially Rome.

Yes, grab the maximum amount of extra time possible. Definitely put at least one of the extra days on the front end of the trip so you get over the worst of the jetlag before the intensity of the tour. Pick up a comprehensive guidebook to Italy and read about the areas near Venice and Rome to see what calls out to you. You simply cannot go wrong with Italy.

Thank you both for your replies! I forgot to mention we are getting there 2 days early as well to get over the jetlag, and thanks to your suggestion, try and catch what we can of Verona and Padua.

I have Rick Steves Best of Italy book and I've seen almost all of his videos on YouTube about Italy but I didn't wanna pigeonhole myself in responses by saying "this place looks cool." But Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples, and extra days in Rome is looking very cool to me.

Well, since you're interested in going further south AND you have as many as 6 additional days AND it's your honeymoon, you could consider Positano. We spent 3 nights there at the end of a history/site heavy trip and just sat around, wandered the little village and enjoyed the view. We ate our dinners at the waterfront restaurants at the base of Positano and had our morning coffees on the balcony of our hotel room. The views were fantastic.

We were also interested in Herculaneum and so we used a transfer company (Aldo Limos) to pick us up at the Naples train station, stop at Herculaneum for 2 hours and then drive us on to our hotel in Positano.

Thanks Valerie! That sounds incredible. That was a place I looked at as the path of the gods looks incredible among everything else out there. I might just copy you.

And ditto Lulu and Valerie.

Ride the bus to Ravello and have lunch or do a cooking class with Mama Agata - amazing. Then take the ferry from Amalfi back into Positano.

Ride the bus to Nocelle and hike the Path of the Gods down into Praiano.

Ferry to Capri and hike to the Arco Naturale and Via Krupp Gardens - amazing views. Ride the gondola from Anacapri up to Mt. Solaro and hike down. Or, take a boat all around the island - it is amazing from the water.

Have you seen the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun"? That's how I came to learn about Positano. After watching it, I was mesmerized and told my DH that I had to go there one day. The apartment in the movie is actually a hotel (Hotel California), and we stayed there. It has an incredible view, about half way up, so not bad. It's almost exactly across the street from a fairly new outdoor bar called Francos, with the magnificent view. We had a drink there each evening before dinner.

We took the train from Rome to Salerno. You catch the ferry, a 10 minute walk from the train station, and it takes 90 minutes by ferry to Positano. You see the gorgeous Amalfi Coast from the sea...a highlight for us!

Watch the movie and you'll be reserving your hotel room!

Pick a fabulous spot and spend a few days with just down time. You'll need it! The Amalfi Coast seems perfect.

The Amalfi coast does look like a great place to relax. First time posting to this forums and the community is amazing! Thank you all so much for helping me! And Lulu, I will watch that and probably book it shortly after!
