First trip to Italy end of April - Venice, Rome, Florence and Coast?

This will be my very first trip to Italy! Adding on to a work trip that will have me flying into Venice (work location north of Venice) then plan to use train for the rest of my travel.

I think I’ve decided on stopping in Rome and Florence and would love to head down to the coast. Need help deciding where on the coast I should venture. Want to avoid renting a car and Assuming the coast will be my last stop need to decide on best airport to fly out of (back to Boston, MA). Also curious of “beach weather” at this time of year? Can I expect hot beach days or will it be more moderate?

Where should my “base locations” be? Any suggestions on day trips from Rome/Florence is much appreciated as well!

How many days to you have for your free time?

Probably should consider Rome as your last destination to simplify your flight home.

I’m planning for about 10 days of personal time. Might gain 2-3 days more depending on my final work schedule. If I wore to do Rome last - how would map out the trip? Venice to the coast (most southern location) then make my way back up to Rome via Florence?

I’m stuck between seeing a good amount but not rushing my way through either. Any suggestions on an additional stop or which places to stay longer in?

Thanks in advance!

First off, Florence is north of Rome so going to Rome then Florence then back to Rome to fly out is silly. You also don't mention what your interests are. Art, food, museums, ancient ruins? That will determine how much time to spend in any location.

IMHO, if you are staying north of Venice then take some of that time after to spend time in Venice. 3-4 nights depending on what your interests are. Then go by train to Florence with another 3-4 nghts. I find Venice and Florence to be very walkable with a mix of art and culture.

End your trip in Rome. I don't like Rome as much as Venice and Florence but that is me. I will say that you should spend some time in Rome since it would be a shame to in Italy and not stop in Rome. You don't have enough time to go further south.

Tons of things to do in each city so once you get your nights set, search the website or come back for more focused questions.
