My wife and I are traveling to Venice in early September 2026 following a cruise to Croatia. We plan to spend 2-3 days in Venice and then we are interested in touring areas in this region of Italy. We spent nearly 3 weeks in Rome, Florence, Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast in May. We were thinking about traveling over to Lake Garda and possibly Lake Como and even perhaps taking a train to Switzerland. Any input on a proposed itinerary for a minimum of 5 days following our stay in Venice is much appreciated. We are starting with a blank sheet of paper at this point.
Five days including travel between destinations isn't very long, and you don't state when or where you are flying from, or if you'll have a car.
In the absence of that info, I'd suggest train to Verona for two nights, then train to Lake Garda for the remaining three nights.
Thank you for your response Lin. I expect we will travel by train where possible and rent a car to get to areas without train service. We have not determined the airport we will return from, but most likely Milan if we are in northern Italy. Cheers!
Train from Lake Garda to Milan works.
