We are planning our first trip to Europe in March. We only have 10 days including travel to and from home. Florence and Rome are our main destination but we'd like to visit our son in Córdoba for a couple of days. We'll fly to Madrid and take the train to Córdoba on a Friday, spend two days in Córdoba/Seville. From Seville, we'll take train to Florence on Monday (2.5 days), take train to Rome on Thursday, fly home from Rome on Sunday. Is this doable or crazy?
Best to fly from Seville to Florence, because the train takes 30 hours (yes, one way!). You have 10 days including travel to and from the US. Flying to Europe eats up 1 day, flying back basically eats up another day. So you're down to 8 or 9 days on the ground in Europe. You're taking Friday - Sunday, 3 days, in Cordoba/Seville. So you're down to 5 or 6 days for Italy, and you don't want to use up 30 hours (plus getting to the station, waiting for the train, etc) of your 5 remaining taking the train from Seville to Florence. Fly to Florence, 2 days in Florence; then train to Rome, 3 days in Rome.
Thank you both for the travel advice - I'm so glad I asked! We'd stay in Spain but I've always wanted to see Florence..hence the insane itenarary.
