I think some of the confusion - my confusion anyway - is the difference of the dates in the original question post and than different dates in a reply to g berg a little later on.
The original post reads:
Tour starts in Venice on 9/8/23 we want to be in Venice the day before on 9/7 to rest and catch our breath before the tour starts.
I have booked airfare as follows:
9/6 @ 10:05 pm depart Chicago. 2 hr 10 min layover in Lisbon. Arrive in Venice @ 6:10pm
Total trip time 13 hrs 5 mins.
The follow up dates in the reply reads:
Truth be told, we're a couple of retirement age chicks and all we want will be getting to and finding our hotel, a nice nearby dinner and wine. Followed by a hot shower and early bed. The tour starts late in the afternoon on the 7th, so we'll have all day on the 7th to wander and get lost on that beautiful island.
So taken literally the original question says that they are leaving Chicago at 10:05pm on Wednesday 6th of September via Lisbon and arriving in Venice at 6:10p. With a 2 hour layover, yes evening flights from the Midwest arrive in Europe the next day, so it makes sense that yes the arrival in Venice will be the same day as Lisbon, so arriving in Venice on Thursday early evening the 7th. That makes joining the tour on Friday the 8th will be comfortable. I think that reassurance on that point is what dhoppe55 was after.
Where my confusion comes is the answer later on, quoted above. I think that that must have been a typo. Wanting to get in, go to bed and relax the day of the start of the tour is not a bad idea, and usually the tours meet in the late afternoon of the first day. But it will be the 8th not the 7th.
I don't see dhoppe55's tour starting on the 8th in the list of tours so I think it is probably full, and the 10 day VFR Venice Florence Rome tours seem to always start of Fridays. So I think everything is fine.
Since there is a minor confusion about the dates it might be a good idea to be sure that the day of arrival hotel - the 7th - is in fact the date that was reserved.
I think that straightens it out. I hope so.
