Hello fellow travelers! My family and I will be traveling to Rome. It is our first time. I found 2 great apartments. One by Piazza Navona, and another on Monti. I’ve done my research and yet I cannot decide where to stay. any suggestions/opinions?
Both are good and you would enjoy them - there isn’t a wrong answer here. But I personally would choose Navonafor a first visit. Here’s why
It’s more in the center of what you may want to see. Easy, pleasant walk to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Campo de Fiori, Spanish Steps. The whole mainly- pedestrian heart of Rome area, which is great for walking and experiencing the area. It’s also close to the Vatican sights. It is heavily touristed, though.
Monti is great, a bit less central but much closer to the Colosseum and Forum I quite enjoy it but the Navona area is a little easier to enjoy as a first visit. But as I said you can’t really go wrong.
I agree with Mira, both parts of town are lovely. What are your main sightseeing goals for your trip? When selecting lodging for Rome, I always pick a base that is centrally located to most of what I plan to do. My first trip was focused on Ancient Rome sites (Colosseum, Forum, train to Ostia Antia, Baths of Caracalla, etc.), and so I stayed in Monti. On subsequent trips, I've stayed close to the Pantheon in the Centro Storico area.
You can't go wrong with either area. Happy planning!
Thank you everyone for your replies! We will be staying in Rome for 6 days and want to see all the major sites - Coloseum, Roman forum, Pantheon, Spanish steps, Trevi, the Vatican, Borghese. It sounds like we will be staying near Piazza Navona then.
