Looks good to me! Depending on your specific likes, Florence might give you a day trip to Siena (one of my favorites). What time of the year are you going? That might help us to give you our best advice! OMG, first time!?! Thank for bringing back so many wonderful memories! I was 13. Much, much older now but I can tell you every sight and every experience and every feeling! I wish the same for you two.

Is there a reason to not fly into Venice and out from Rome?

Going in early/mid June! Flying in and out of Rome because it’s a lot cheaper for us.

Certainly a doable trip.

You'd enjoy it even more if you could arrive in Venice and depart out of Rome instead. If in/out of Rome is dramatically cheaper, take a look into what a cheap one-way flight would be from FCO into VCE, to start your journey, then see how the costs come out to.

What time do you land at Rome’s FCO airport? There’s a nonstop flight departing at 9:20 to Venice. The next flight departs at 1:20p.

I'm back! I agree, flying into Venice might be easier. The flight over the Alps is spectacular and the first view of the islands that make up Venice will get your heart beating faster. That said, flying into Rome usually is cheaper. I'm thinking you'll be arriving in the morning. Check train schedules at trenitalia.com. It isn't an awful thing to take the train to Florence. The airport station is "Fiumicino airport". You'll probably want "Firenze SM Novella" in Florence. You'll see lots of options and they require a change of trains at Rome's main station (Roma Termini). The whole trip will take you about 2 1/2 hours (make sure the connection at Roma Termini is for the Frecciarossa ('red arrow' - the high speed, very comfortable train. You could be in Florence for lunch and a few hours before you would check into your hotel. The scenery along the way could give you a good introduction to Rome and the country side. Not a bad way to start your vacation. OK, this might be a bit easier if you were able to sleep on the plane. :) June huh? Gonna be hot and very humid in Florence. Venice will be hot and so will Rome = gelato is a great for bringing down the body temperature!

What are you exact dates and your home airport? If you haven't purchased your Rome tickets I would seriously look at going into Venice and home from Rome. I am sure it will be the same if not cheaper. Nearly all of ours tickets are open jaw or multi-cities tickets and almost always cheaper.

I would also consider going directly to Venice. Your first day is going to lost mostly to jet lag so you can waste it on the train ride or flight to Venice. Then work you way back.
