First Sunday of the month: Sites are free

Be aware if you have any tours scheduled for the Colosseum or other Italian museums on the first Sunday of June or July, I just received this email from The Tour Guy.

“Italy has re-initiated the First Sunday of the month as a free day at the Colosseum and many other Museums in the country. This means we are not able to operate the tour as scheduled or advertised with Skip the Line Tickets.”

Yep, free first Sundays at the Italian State Museums were reinstated in April.

This doesn't apply to private or civic museums, such as the Vatican's in Rome, the Opera del Duomo Museum in Florence, etc. so check the hours for any of those you wish to visit. For anyone wishing to visit Galleria Borghese, while tickets fees are suspended on First Sundays, 2-euro timed-entry reservations still apply to maintain their usual crowd control.

Oh. I guess I'm announcing old news. Sorry about that.

Nope, don't apologize! I'm actually really glad you reminded people as that linked post was awhile back! It might also be helpful to know that it doesn't affect ALL museums. :O)

I love the way you mention the Vatican Museum as a private Museum. Let's tell it like it is: the Roman Church is not a public body!

I just meant that it isn't an Italian State Museum so First Free Sundays don't apply. I didn't know what else to call it other than (loosely) "private"! Suggestions? :O)
