First Sunday at Borghese Gallery?

We will be in Rome on the first Sunday of the month, where it says the Borghese Gallery is free admission. Is it impossible to get in on those Sundays? It seems you need to call. Any advice or experience is appreciated

Limited number of people are admitted per 2-hour period, so it's usually hard to get a reservation. Even harder on a free day. But worth a call (during Italian business hours.)

They've only had 2 free Sundays so it's hard to say how hard the tickets will be to get. I would call and give it a try. If you can't get them then just book for another day. Either way, the gallery is wonderful and worth visiting. If you can't get into the Borghese you'll certainly be able to get into any of the other state run sites which will also be free.

Thank you for posting this! I hadn't heard about the new free Sunday program, and we were planning to go to the Borghese Gallery the first Sunday in October (and that is the only day that will work with our schedule). Since the RS guidebook just said to book at least a week in advance, I hadn't even looked into it. I was sad because I figured the reservations would be all snatched up for that free day by now and we would miss out, but I gave it a try yesterday morning and yay! I got reservations for 6! So if you are going in October, give it a try. This is my first time planning a trip overseas and I am feeling pretty good about it thanks to all the great tips and wisdom on this forum!
