First Post, a huge Thank You

With my first post I just wanted to say a big Thank You to all those who have posted travel advice. We just returned from 10 days ( Rome, Venice, Florence and the CT) and after watching the RS show for years and reading countless topics here most if not all of my questions were answered and easily found. From air and train travel, to itenerary help, to hotels and restaurants, to guides and everything in between. Thank you all who have posted such useful information for first time travelers like myself to learn from, you made our trip so much more enjoyable.

Now, you can give opinions and answer questions. I am "experienced" traveler and still ask questions because of different locations and ever changing things like airport security protocols.

Christi, hopefully we'll be returning soon. We fell in love with it.

Barbnrob, I'd be happy to share what I can. We flew from O'Hare to FCO. We were surprised at O'Hare, we didn't have to remove our shoes or take out our liquids for security. It took about 5 minutes to get through security there. We did have to take out our liquids at FCO but it was still a quick process.

It's nice to hear that you had such a wonderful trip. That's what holidays are all about!

One question though..... which of the five Cinque Terre towns did you stay in, and how crowded was it during your stay there?

Ken we stayed in Monterosso and it was pretty crowded. We took the ferry to Vernaza and it was crowded as well. (My wife has a fear of heights so we didn't use the trails). Being my first time there I don't have anything to compare it to but it was virtually wall to wall people. Both on the ferry to and from we had to catch the second ferry because of overcrowding. I'm not a huge fan of crowds so that was a turn off but the sheer beauty of the place made it tolerable.

I am so glad you had a first enjoyable trip and want to go back! I went in April and also learned a lot from these boards here and it was super helpful. We are booked again for end of August that's how much I fell in love with Italy. I am also starting a language class next week to learn Italian , super excited and yes thats how much I love Italy lol .Still I am learning info from here and taking it all in. Maybe you could write a trip report on the trip report board, would love to hear all the details.

dr,

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like the crowding situation is still a bit of a problem. I also stay in Monterosso and the crowds are certainly an annoyance at times, but I try to be somewhere else during the day.

Glad you had a good trip. My favorite part of Italy is up North by the lakes. Love Stresa, Cannobio, Lake Maggiorie area. I usually fly into Zurich and take the train down into Italy. Beautiful train ride and not having to drive after an international flight is a bonus.
