First Italy trip

I have 15 nights on the ground. As of now I’m planning to do 5 nights in Rome, 5 nights in Florence, 5 nights in Venice. With possible day trips like Siena, Lucca or wine tasting, island Murano & Burano.Does this seem like a good idea? I’d rather stay in an area and really see it, have time to wander.

Sabebot,

Your itinerary sounds great!

If you haven’t booked your flights, I’d suggest reversing the order; fly into Venice and depart from Rome.
The main reason for doing this is because most flights out of Venice depart very early in the morning and transportation to the airport may be an issue.

Enjoy your trip!

I agree with Priscilla. Venice is easier to arrive in than depart from because getting to the airport requires water transport at least part of the way, and you need to allow plenty of time. Arriving is easier because you're not facing a deadline. Rome works just as well either way, thanks to the fast Leonardo Express.

If you're OK basing in larger cities (as I am), you've picked the "top three." I agree that spending multiple nights in one place, with day trips as desired, is much easier than moving from day to day.

I agree with others about starting in Venice and making your way down to Rome. Venice is much easier to manage when jet-lagged. I would actually do 4 days Venice, 4 days Florence, and 7 days Rome, though - Rome is magnificent and so much to see and do.

I think your itinerary is generally good, but I would do 3 or max 4 nights in Venice and add the time to Rome or to see countryside outside of Florence.

For your visit to Lucca, if you do it, we really enjoyed a guided walking tour (4 hours) with Wanda Martinelli. She will really give you some insights into the city, its history, and it architecture. She also has some great restaurant suggestions. A guide was a first for us and it ws great!!! https://www.luccatours.com/

There is a lot more to see in Rome than Venice.

I would go with
Rome 6 nights
Florence 5 nights
Venice 4 nights

We LOVE. doing Venice last. We’ve done it twice. It’s an amazing relaxing cap off to any trip!
