We will be arriving into Rome from Massachusetts at 0800. We would like to go to the sites in this order: Colosseum Roman Forum Capitoline Hill
Pantheon Will I have enough time to do all these that day considering I will have to go through the airport and take the train over to my hotel. My hotel is 5 min walking distance to the Colosseum. Also I would love to book the Colosseum underground tour (1.5hr). Would this be doable? Also what time should I book the colosseum underground tour at? thanks!
If you can deal with the jet lag it's doable. I would book the tour for the afternoon as you never know if your plane will be late or your luggage delayed. Donna
Lynn, Trans Atlantic flights don't always arrive on time. Since you wrote "First day in Rome" I assume you will be there more than the initial day. If that is the case you might want to leave the first day unstructured and play it by ear. To do all you listed on the first day when tired, sleepy, and jet lagged will make for a long day. But it can be done.

You could do it if you have some magic jet lag solution. I am afraid it would be a blur by PM. If you arrive at 8 you should be to your hotel by 10 so you could safely book appointments for the PM.
I think your idea of mostly outside activities on your first day is just perfect. Fresh air, exercise and hopefully sunshine will keep away the jet lag. The first 3 items sound doable, you might run out of energy before you get to the Pantheon. We like to stay up as long as we can on the first day (certainly until 9pm or 10pm) and then we are on our "destination" timezone right away. Of course, that only works really well if you can sleep on the plane before you arrive.
How about making the Pantheon an option before or after a late lunch/early dinner (like takeaway pizza). It is open until 6:30.
Amanda nailed it: Outdoor activity is just the thing for jet lag and you can "do" your planned itinerary in 1/2 day. Do book a tour for the Colosseum and Forum. You will enjoy it more. The guide can leave you at the Capitoline Hill/Campodoglio and if the day is nice, you can take the elevator to the top of the Vittorio for a wonderful vista. The Pantheon should be open until 7:30during summer, but double-check.
Do I need to book a tour for the colosseum and forum ahead of time. is there a tour you recommend? also what time do you think I should book it for allowing time from airport, hotel checkin etc. My hotel is only 10 walking distance from colosseum.
