Firenze Santa Maria Novella - Taxi Help

Hi!
My hotel told me they will get us a driver from the train station to the hotel and it will be 135 Euros. They also said the taxi should be around 20. I am worried about getting scammed. Has anyone done a taxi from the train station in Florence to the hotel and can tell me about it? Is there an official taxi line? are they easy? The ride should only be about 15-20 mins. I am not sure what to do. TIA!

There is a marked taxi stand immediately outside the main entrance. Before you get in a taxi, show the driver the address of your hotel, ask him to estimate how much it will cost, insist he use the meter (point to it, usually on the dash or built into the rear view mirror) and confirm he will take a credit card. Save yourself the $100; you’ll be fine!

Just remember that, especially on rainy days, the queue could be quite long. It is unlikely to get scammed, your main risks are having to wait for a car or getting stuck in a queue.

The only scam is your hotel charging that much for a driver!
Taxi to anywhere in historic center should be less than 15 euros
Taxi will get you as close to your hotel as possible, most streets are pedestrianized

Where is your hotel? You maybe able to just walk, Florence is very compact

Scroll thru and look for it, it has lots of good info

@miuccia we are about 7 min walk from Santa Maria Novella church and about a 10-15 min drive when i mapped the train station. Thanks!

Google maps shows a 12 minute walk (850 metres), or a 5 minute drive (1.2 km) between SMN station and that hotel. Depending on how much luggage you are packing, I'd probably just walk. But a taxi shouldn't cost more than €15-20.

Roberto’s post in the thread I linked above as a formula for estimating taxi fare
