We are planning on getting a Firenze pass while in Florence. One of the couples we are traveling with is suggesting that we do a private tour of the Uffizi gallery. Since the pass includes going into the Uffizi, would it seem like overkill for the tour as well. Or is it a matter of how in depth we want to go regarding the artwork there?? The tour is €59.....

Yes, that would be the point of paying for a tour if entry is already covered by the pass. In addition, the museum is quite large and a tour will likely steer you to the more notable works. It sounds as if you're traveling with multiple couples? We did the museum on our own with a book purchased from its shop, and audioguides in English are available for rent as well (€ 10.00 for two pairs, I believe) so there are less pricey options if you're fine with splitting up the group to visit per individual method.
I had a Firenze pass and a private tour with ArtViva. Highly recommend this. It was a zoo to get in, even with a booked group. ArtViva was great and then I was able to part from the tour at the end and go back to explore a bit more on my own. There's a very nice Dutch collection, for example! http://www.uffizi.org/875-the-blue-rooms-at-the-new-uffizi/
FirenzePass + RS audio guide was plenty for me!
