Firenze Card and the Duomo dome

Just in case anyone is going to Florence soon and intends to use the card, this warning appears on the Firenze Card website:

"We would like to inform you that from 1st of November 2016 the booking is required to visit the Dome (Cupola). You have to make the reservation at the ticket office in piazza San Giovanni 7/r after the collection of the free ticket."

So in case you missed it, be aware that you can't just rock up to the dome entrance without a reservation.

Thanks Kathy,
I'm planning our family trip for next June 2017 and this is useful information. I wish they would open up booking dates that far in advance for us early planners. So many websites are only open 2 to 3 months in advance.

Good question. I tested the Duomo website to see if I could make just a reservation without purchasing tickets as well, and unless I missed something, that appears not to be possible.

As above, the only info available states that if using a Firenze Card, you must make the reservation as the same time you collect your 'free' tickets. You could give them a call or shoot them an email if wanting to know more?

A reservation to climb the dome is required no matter what kind of ticket you get. The best deal, IMO, is the 2-day ticket that allows entrance to Duomo, Duomo museum, Baptistery, dome, etc. But you will still need to reserve the dome climb. You get this ticket at the museum.

Yes, a reservation is mandatory in either case, and the 2-day ticket is indeed a good deal but not an economical one if they are already going to have the Firenze Card which covers the Duomo? I wouldn't buy the F. Card if not wanting to be able to get as much good of it as possible?

An exception might be if they plan to be in Florence much longer than the 72 hours covered with the card and can find enough other attractions of interest to use the card for. Then saving the Duomo and buying the 2-day ticket to use after the pass runs out might be a good option.
