Firenze Card and reservations

Hello all,

Going through ideas for Florence and came across the Firenze Card. I see there's enough posts about "worth it or not" but I wanted to ask about reservations and the card. Has anyone had experience with making reservations after purchasing the card? I was pretending to be in Italy now and looking at the Accademia and saw that their tickets are sold out until this weekend so it looks like I'd have to reserve my spot before I arrive in Italy. Just wanted to see if anyone had experience with making those reservations as a card holder.

Firenze Card is not currently being offered

You’ll need to make reservations in advance for all the major sites in Florence.

When is your trip?

If you list sites you are interested in we can provide you with the official websites to purchase/book your reservations

Right, It hasn't been available for quite some time, and no indication when/if it will be offered again.
For anyone else interested, this is the page you need to watch:

Scroll down to the "FIRENZECARD CIRCUIT HAS NOT YET BEEN REACTIVATED AND THE SERVICE IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED. So Firenzecard cannot be used for access to the museums." text.

I posted a trip report on Florence earlier today called Florence with a Side of Venice. I outlined which sites required tickets and which ones I reserved ahead and which ones I bought on the day, if you are interested.

On our trip last summer, we bought a combo ticket for the Uffizi, Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace. It was called Passepartout and was one option on the direct ticketing website. The Uffizi had to be visited first and we were able to make reservations for it when we purchased the pass. I don't remember if we had real reservations to the other two or not. We just kind of showed up on a Sunday morning for those. Try it.

With this being your first trip to Europe, I suggest you consider using Walks of Italy. We took two tours last time we were in Tuscany and took a day trip to Florence.
The first tour I suggest is their Best of Florence Walking Tour. It starts with skip the line tickets to the Accademia. You have about 45 minutes to see the museum. Since it starts just before it opens, you get to see it fairly uncrowded. By the time we left, it was getting really busy and this was in December. From the Accademia, you walk to the Duomo and spend 30-45 minutes viewing the baptistry and cathedral. From there, there's a great stroll through town seeing all the highlights.

The other tour to consider is. the Full Day Florence Tour. This includes the Uffizi and is great if you are an art buff. This is the tour we took. Be aware that it does take up an entire day. The good news is that it ends in the Uffizi. The day we took the tour the Uffizi was open late and we were able to stay and see parts of the museum not on the tour.

The great thing about the Walks of Italy tour is that you will have a guide who is an expert on Florence and art. Our guide had a Masters in art history. Also, the group is limited to 10-12 people. There were 8 of us on our tour and Marco didn't have to use the headset in the Uffizi.

Think carefully about your interests since you have so little time in Florence. Even with that the WOI Best of Florence Walking Tour would be a great introduction to this wonderful city. BTW, this first time my wife and I were in Florence was on a high school trip to Europe. She was 14 and I was 15. That was in 1966. We've been going steady since then.

Dylan, just in case you missed it, Firenzecard is back in business. If considering purchasing this pass, be sure and read the not-so-fine print in the FAQ section of the website regarding the museums you must still make an advance, tined-entry reservation for, and how to do that if intending on purchasing the pass.

I just completed phone reservations using the Firenze card, for Uffizi and Accademia, here's my experience in case it helps anyone.
After reading about the Firenze card with possible 48hr extension we decided it would be a good deal for us (we'll be in Florence for 7 nights). I bought 2 cards through their website (you must enter name, DOB and email for each card) and received vouchers via email. We each downloaded the app to our phones and followed the instructions to enter the voucher for each person. That basically loads your personal digital card to your app. They warn not to delete the app after you do that because you'll lose the card.
The whole process was clear and quick, much easier than expected. I wasn't sure if I needed to purchase the cards before making our reservations, but it turns out I didn't need to.

This morning I called the Firenze Museii call center provided on the website (+39 055 294883) and followed the instructions, press 1 for English, then 3 for reserving times with the Firenze card, then 1 for accepting privacy policy. I was on hold for less than 10 minutes (3rd in line at the start, with recorded updates on position in line). The operator came on, started in Italian but I just said I wanted to make reservations for Uffizi and Accadamia. She asked for dates and times, I provided them based on what I had looked up as available from the B-ticket sites. She took my name, and for each museum reservation she gave me a confirmation number (one number for 2 people together). She didn't ask me for my Firenze card number. She said I just go to the reservation desk at each museum and present the confirmation number along with the Firenze card.
Again, all very easy and less complicated than I expected. I made the phone call using Skype (total 11 minutes). I have Microsoft Office 365 and didn't realize there's a 60 minute subscription for skype calls.

I'm providing this long winded description because there were a few things I worried about before doing it that I thought might help others:

You DON'T actually need to buy your Firenze card before calling for the reservation. I'm guessing that reservation is only good if you show up with the Firenze card, but to make the phone call and book it, I didn't have to provide the card and the reservation is FREE. Remember your card isn't activated until you enter the first museum (72 hour clock starts then)

Just before making the call I looked up the available time slots on the B ticket site and was ready to give the exact dates and times I wanted when she asked for them. I don't know if I could have just asked her what was available, or if I asked for a time slot that wasn't listed as available whether they have some leeway or extra spaces reserved for Firenze card holders.

I believe calling this call center is the only way to make the reservation using the Firenze card before arrival in Florence. According to the FAQs on the Firenze card website there are several places you can go in person to try to reserve with the card but we didn't want to risk getting our preferred time slots. I don't think this reservation is the same thing as booking online from B-ticket site and selecting free ticket with 4euro fee. I think that is just for the groups of people that are allowed free admission to the museums.
