Firenze Card

Hello all,

I am thinking of getting the FirenzeCard for an upcoming trip to Florence for its flexibility and should be able to make it worth the cost. However, I have some concerns about the card if anyone has experience with it and can answer my questions.

  1. Will I still experience lines at the major attractions (i.e., Uffizi, Accademia)? If so, are they significant wait times?

  2. If I buy the card online and make reservations to climb the Cupola in advance, the 72 hours clock doesn't start until I actually visit the first attraction (in this case, it would be the Cupola). Is that correct?

For the last question, we are planning on arriving in the afternoon and climbing the Cupola the first thing the following morning. I am concerned that if we wait to make the reservation until the day before, there will be no morning slots available. I also don't want to start the 72 hour clock early.

Thank you all!

The reservation for a dome climb slot is new since we used firenze card. Firenze card is worthwhile for those staying 3-5 days. I used RS book to look up times and locations of attractions and made an itinerary and attacked it. Here is my advice. Make a reservation for dome climb slot, if you are allowed without prebuying your Florence card. You can easily buy the card at Palazzo Vecchio in the heart of Florence. No need to prepurchase unless you need it for the reservation. The Firenze Card starts when you activate it at the first attraction, not at time of purchase. Start the card around 10 am. That way, on day four, you can enter one last attraction prior to 10 am. Also, with the Florence card - you take it to the duomo complex ticket stand. (Biglietteria near baptistery, north side. Remember biglietteria word.). The Catholic Church will issue you a duomo complex card at no charge. You then use the duomo card for all sites in the complex. You have two days to use the duomo card. So, don't activate it until the last full day of your Florence card. Then, you can use it once on the last day of your Florence card and the next day. Sites included in duomo card are: dome climb, baptistery, basement archeology site, bell tower climb, and duomo museum. Feel free to ask more questions. I enjoyed the Florence card when we stayed five days and got a lot out of it. I highly recommend Santa Croce, Santa Maria Novella, Brancacci chapel, Pitti Palace, San Marco monastery, Palazzo Vecchio, duomo stuff, Uffizi, statue of David, Galileo museum, etc.. Outside of Florence card - I recommend San Miniato and San Lorenzo complex. There is so much in Florence! If you don't see it all - you are not alone!
