What are the advantages of the Firenzacard vs. the Museum membership card? We will be in Florence for a week.
Kathryn , It's no contest ! We were in Firenze for a week last fall . If I had known about the membership at that time , I would have snagged it in a heartbeat . For two people it is the same price as the Firenze card , but covers virtually everything and unlimited visits . For instance : instead of doing one marathon visit to the Uffizi , you could , for example , stop in every day( Uffizi ) at three or four in the afternoon ,thus beating the massive crowds and savoring it in more reasonable time frames than a marathon four or five hour chunk .Go to the website " Amici degli Uffizi " ( Friends of the Uffizi ) for details . When we return to Firenze , that is what we will do . You won't be sorry !!!
Kathryn, I've purchased the museum membership on two visits to Florence and it worked great: multiple admissions with no reservations/waiting. If that's of interest to you, I think it's the best choice. Just be sure you go to the Italian website Amici degli Uffizi (which has an English option), not its US counterpart (Friends of the Uffizi, which is a philanthropic organization with high membership fees). I completed the paperwork before traveling and faxed it in, with payment; you can then pick up your card from their office in the Uffizi when you arrive. Once or twice I've had to push a little to get a guard to "hear" why I should be admitted, but I've always gotten in without a reservation or wait.
Just throwing my vote in with the others: with a week to spend in the city, the Amici degli Uffizi card is great for all of the reasons listed above. We bought the family pass for the two of us. It doesn't cover everything (Santa Croce, for instance) but enough to make it well worthwhile.
Ok - I have a question from Kathryn's post if I may... I purchased 4 Firenza cards last week for my group. We will be in Florence 3 days and have plans to visit major museums - probably only once.. am I still ok with the Firenza? no waiting, etc? Thank you in advance.
Michelle , you'll be fine . The big advantage to either, is the ability to avoid ticket BUYING lines which can be horrendous . You still may have to deal with some lines for getting in ( generally only the Uffizi and Accademia ) but it's not bad .
