Finnair carry on weight restrictions

We're flying Seattle to Bologna in a couple days and planning to carry on our luggage in hopes of avoiding some of the travel related issues such as lost baggage. Curious if anyone has recent experience with Finnair's 22 pound total weight restrictions for each passenger and how strictly they enforce it. We're hoping to each carry a regulation sized suitcase and backpack but it's really difficult to keep at or below their weight limit.
Thanks in advance for any input.

We flew finnair jfk to helsinki and stockholm to jfk in March and April. No attention was paid to the weight of our carryons, but both flights were almost empty. Now that it is peak travel season, the flights might be full, and weight may of more concern.

Thanks for your input Carol. Not sure that it makes any difference but probably should mention we're flying business class. 🤞

The above post by rosieeshepherd reported.

I flew Finnair twice this spring. In business class. No one questioned me. Both the flights were intra-Europe and not full. It's really up to the gate agent.

ARe your bags themselves really heavy? There is no way you should be hitting 10kg with normal carry on stuff. You may get away with it - but you may need to dump the excess toiletries at the airport or wear the heaviest clothes

If you are flying business class no agent will be weighing your carry-ons especially if they are within the size limitations!!!
I would bet money on that

If you were really worried and flying in coach I would have recommended wearing a lightweight jacket with some large pockets so if you notice bags ahead of you being weighed you can easily transfer some of your heaviest item from your carry-on to your jacket pockets.
As a photographer, I have never once been within weight with my carry-on but my bag does not look oversized and I have pockets ready should I need them as I will refuse to let my gear be checked. I also make it a point to be early to the gate / on line so I don't run the risk of no overhead space available but in business class that is not a concern.
I usually check a bag so is not a cost thing with me just fragility of my cargo.

I suggest being on the cautious side. European airlines are much stricter with luggage rules than American ones. Also, many airlines are still cash-strapped and therefore may use any excuse to extract some extra revenue. I flew Swiss Air, Iberia, and Lufthansa business class multiple times and did have grumpy airport agents check the weight of my carry-on. In fact, I heard that Delta is getting strict lately too.

I would second the caution that this can be almost totally up to the mood of a given gate or ticket agent. Buyer Beware.

The weight of the aircraft/amount of fuel needed. Less weight, less fuel, less cost. I figure weighing bags is going to be more frequent this summer due to fuel costs. Passenger body weight is already a set amount per seat, so that is a basic constant cost. Baggage, not so much. If they say 22kg or 32 kg, I’d sure stay within that in the near future.

I seriously doubt that.

You really think they load the plane with the passengers and cargo, determine the weight, then order how much fuel to put in the tanks?

No Joe, they don’t. Those calculations are made far in advance of the flight leaving the ground. IF an airline is concerned about the additional weight of a hundred plus bags-they will be weighing and making the passenger figure out how to diminish that weight.
