We will be beginning a 12 day italy trip with 3 days in Rome. We're going to go to Venice, Amalfi coast, then back to Rome for our flight out of Da Vinci at 1:30 pm. We thought we should head back to Rome and stay near (but not in) the city, as parking can be expensive, (we'll have a car for the whole trip) and we really have no time to sightsee on that last day. Does anyone know anything nicer than a Motel 6 near the airport?

if you haven't already booked your flights, why not fly out of Naples? You're already down that way on the Amalfi coast.

Consider spending the night in Orvieto. It is a beautiful town and not too far from Rome. The first time we were in Italy we spent our last night at La Badia which is just outside of Orvieto.
It is an easy drive to the airport from there.

Consider dropping the car in Orvieto and training to Rome.Stay near the train station(short walk)and then take the train to the airport.Orvieto is a neat town.
