We are travelling to Italy with our 10-year-old son next April. The itinerary is Rome for 5 nights, Positano for four nights, and Sicily for 4 nights. We fly from Sicily to Rome, spend one night and then fly out at noon.
I would appreciate recommendations for a hotel or B&B for a single night in Rome. We would like to enjoy our last night in comfort and convenience to be ready for a very long flight. Thank you.
Suzi, It would help to know what time your flight departs? If you have a very early flight, I'd consider staying close to airport. Otherwise, staying somewhere in the Termini area (easy access to the Leonardo Express is the method I'd use. There are lots of "comfortable" Hotels in that area. Have a look at Hotel Aberdeen or Hotel Sonya (both in the Termini area). Happy travels!
I'd be interested in what time your flight from Sicily to Rome gets in and if you have enough time to take the train into Rome, get to your hotel and enjoy one last evening. Your noon flight out of Rome is fine to be able to get out to the airport by train in the morning. If you have the time to stay in Rome, I agree with Ken to stay near Termini.
We fly in from Sicily on the day before we leave Rome. Probably at midday.
We will likely take a taxi to the airport for ease and convenience. We don't want to stay at the airport, because we want the wonders of Rome still available to us for one more night. Thanks!
check out http://www.albergodelsenato.it/ It's a fine hotel and the location is superb. romecabs.com is an excellent car service.
Suzi, This last trip to Rome in April 2010 we stayed at the Relais Al Senato. It is a little 5 room hotel right on the Piazza Navona. The price was very reasonable and it was great to be able to step outside the hotel and be in Piazza Navona. Very near lots of things to visit on your last night.
Thanks for all the great tips! Much appreciated. Has anyone tried the Hotel Santa Maria? It looks like a nice place, with a very unique layout. It might be the perfect end to our trip, but I would love to hear opinions from those who has stayed there. I have also checked the usaul opinion sites. : )
I stay in the city center and have my hotel (B & B) arrange an early taxi to the airport (45 Euro). "Arco del Lauro" (Trastevere) is my preferred B & B.
About one block from Piazza Navona, we stayed with our then-10yo daughter in a triple rooms at Residenza Canali ai Coronari. We've stayed there in the past, and love the location (quiet but convenient) and the helpful, pleasant staff. The triple room that we had was great; our daughter's bed was in a separate alcove from ours, with a door in between.
