Fiesole afternoon/evening visit

We are arriving in to Florence at 3pm on a Tuesday in late Sept. We would like to take the bus up to Fiesole for our first night. We would probably arrive up there by 3:40ish. Would this be too late to have lunch at La Reggia? Or should we walk around and then have dinner? Does anyone know what time La Reggia is open from? It doesn't show on their website. We would like to make reservations. If eating dinner instead of lunch, how long does one need to wander around Fiesole? Any other suggestions for dinner or is La Reggia the best option? Will the buses run late into the evening if we do dinner? Thanks All!

I don't know this restaurant's hours specifically, but many kitchens stop serving at 3pm. If you are calling to make a dinner reservation, you could ask about lunch.

Fiesole is small but it would not be difficult to spend a few hours at the archeological zone and at other sights. You could have a relaxed aperitivo before dinner.

Edit: a google search shows their lunch service ends at 2:30pm.

The #7 bus runs from Fiesole until 1:00am, but frequency changes from every 15 minutes to every half hour starting at 9:30pm and then to hourly starting at 11:00pm. You can check the schedule at www.ataf.net. Website defaults to the Piazza San Marco to Fiesole schedule, so click on Fiesole to see the return schedule.

Keep in mind that you'll need to first get to Piazza San Marco to catch the #7 bus. I'd suggest buying 2 tickets each (one for each direction) before starting the trip. Be sure to validate your ticket upon boarding the bus or risk a fine. A ticket is good for 90 minutes from validation, so one ticket would for example cover both a bus from train station to Piazza San Marco and the #7 bus to Fiesole.

Google notes that lunch is 12:30-2, and dinner is 7-10. I suppose you could phone to confirm.

3:40pm is too late for lunch at any restaurant. Just wait till dinner time. You can have a snack in the street if you are hungry, and visit the museum, amphitheater, and the Duomo. See the panorama from San Francesco as well.
Don't worry about the buses in the evening. They run till late, and taxi rides down are not that expensive. You don't need two bus tickets or four. Just buy at least one BIGLIETTO MULTIPLO. It is valid for 4 trips of up to 90 min each. If two people are using it, validate 2 opposite sides going, then validate the other two sides on the opposite face going back. Basically you will see 4 numbers (1,2,3,4) on the ends on each face (1 and 2 on one face, 3 and 4 on the other). You need one date stamp next to each number per person, per trip. Just insert in the validating machine on board. One stamp per person going, one stamp per person coming back.
