We will be in the Dolomites in July. Someone who is from Italy told my husband that we should go to Fiera di Primiero instead of the Ortisei area because it's just as beautiful and a lot less crowded. I'm just wondering - have any of you been there, and what are your thoughts? Thank you!
Have you look to compare hotel prices in both towns to see which is is more reasonable and the distance to the dolomite hiking trails? From what i see, Fiera di Primiero looks stunningly beautiful.
Have not been there but where you base depends a lot on what you want to do and transportation. Looks like you’d have to have a car, whereas in the Val Gardena public transportation is extremely easy. How many. nights are you devoting to this part of your trip?
We will only be there for two nights. I've had to book lodging in Vigo di Fassa. It can be cancelled, if needed, but it looks like it's our best option. We have 8 people. One is vegan, and he wants to have a place with a kitchen. There aren't any places with openings in Fiera di Primiero, or Ortisei, that have both a kitchen and air conditioning. It looks like there are good bus routes there, but we might have a car anyway.
Has anyone stayed in Vigo di Fassa?
We had no need for AC the three times we were in Ortisei in July and August. The mountains are cooler by far than the valleys and even if the day is warm, the night will not be. But July is high season and August is higher season, so lodging may be getting rather full with the regulars, people who come back year after year and stay for weeks. Apartments often do not want to rent for short stays so if you found something that works, keep it.
Thank you for your help!
